You can probably use XMMS to play flac on osx. Depending on your experience with linux/unix, it might be difficult to set up. Probably the easiest way to do it: get fink (fink.sourceforge.net)and X11 (www.apple.com/macosx/features/x11/download/)
install both, and open fink. locate xmms and ctrl-click, choose binary->install. do the same with FLAC and the flac plugin for xmms. Launch it from the X11 terminal with /sw/bin/xmms. I think you'll find it similar to macamp.

After 30 minutes installing xmms, i still can't just drop a flac file onto the screen....Anyway, I found flac plugin for quicktime, http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16803 just place it in /Library/Application Support/quicktime. that's ALL!!

What you have to do is find the invisible file matlx_license (NOT maltx, matlx - it's misspelled). Delete that file and it should launch just fine.

From the Finder, hit Apple-F, put "matlx_license" in the "Name contains" line. If there's another menu line below that, make it "Visibility/Visible and invisible items" and then hit "Search". The name is actually ".matlx_license" (note the dot at the beginning), and it should be under

username > Library > Preferences

but you won't be able to see it if you go there in the Finder.

Alternately, open Terminal, type
cd Library/Preferences/
and then
rm .matlx_license

That should do the trick. If it doesn't...we never had this conversation. :)
